In the USA The Sirotzki family is from Ohio. My Parents moved here in 1958 from
Bremen,Germany. They moved to Cleveland and remained in the surrounding area
ever since then.
I am 1 of 5 children. 2 Born in Germany -Silvia and Hans, 3 here in Ohio, Francis,
Heidi and myself, Monica
My Mother had one sister whom moved here right after WW2. My Tante(aunt) Else &
Uncle Arthur Molzan along with their 4 boys are the only blood relatives in the USA.
My Tante and 1 of her boys has passed on. Remaining are Donald, Darrell and Dale
Molzan.
So with that said all we really have is each other. We were not fortunate enough to
know most of our relatives in Germany and Danzig. In particular I mean our
Grandparents. In German we call them our Oma and Opa. My parents kept in contact
through letters etc..I am sure the choice to move across the Atlantic was a tough
decision, but one I know they did for us, their children.
This selfless act was done because my parents grew up under Hitler's reign and lived
though WW2. My father was not about to see his children go off to war like he had to
do at the age of 14. So off to America they went.
This had to be one the hardest decisions they ever made. They would be leaving
their homeland and their loved ones behind. The USA is a very long way from
Germany. But that's what war will do to you. It tore apart my father's family. Life was
never the same for him again. To leave and start over probably sounded very good.
